The Good Shepherd Maria Montessori AMI Centre, Sri Lanka is the only AMI-affiliated Montessori Training Centre in the country. The Centre is dedicated to preparing Montessori educators according to the authentic principles and practices established by Dr. Maria Montessori and guided by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).

Our mission is to nurture competent, reflective, and compassionate Montessori educators who uphold the integrity of the AMI method while serving children, families, and communities both locally and internationally.

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) – Netherlands

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to preserve and promote the integrity of her educational philosophy.

AMI is the international governing body for authentic Montessori education, responsible for setting global standards for Montessori teacher training, schools, and educational practice. It ensures that Montessori education remains true to Dr. Montessori’s original principles through rigorous training, observation, and research.

AMI oversees and accredits Montessori training centres and schools worldwide, including AMI Sri Lanka, providing guidance, quality assurance, and international recognition. All AMI-affiliated centres follow a unified curriculum and assessment process, enabling graduates to work in AMI schools across the world.

Today, AMI operates globally, supporting Montessori education in diverse cultural and educational contexts while maintaining the highest standards of excellence established by its founder.
